In 2006, J.D. Power and Associates named the Pittsburgh International Airport among the top five airports in its two most recent customer satisfaction surveys. Serving over 80 national and international cities with over 290 non-stop flights daily, the Pittsburgh International Airport is located 14 miles west of Pittsburgh and 45 miles southwest of Armstrong County. McVille Field, which is located in South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, has a 2268 ft. long turf runway. The airport is located approximately five miles southwest of Kittanning.

Eastern US

Among the major travel routes are US Route 422, PA Route 66 and PA Route 28. Each of these three major arteries run through Kittanning. Major highways near Armstrong County include PA Turnpike Interstate 76, Interstate 80 and Interstate 79.

Three Railways serve the Armstrong County region. Norfolk Southern is a Class I Carrier. Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh is a Class II Carrier. The Kiski Junction Railroad is a Class III Railroad.

Pittsburgh is the nation’s third ranked inland city port, handling 40 million tons annually. Armstrong County, located 20 river miles north of the three rivers confluence, contains 38 miles of commercially navigable river. Currently, there are six barge-loading facilities within these 38 miles.
